Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Transportation seeks a Transportation Planning Manager to guide statewide geospatial planning and engineering. You will supervise staff, enable modern GIS workflows, and coordinate with partners to inform transportation decisions.

You will ensure data is created, maintained, and shared, evaluate external spatial datasets, and support division initiatives to improve GIS operations and planning outcomes.

Qualifications

• One year as a Transportation Planning Specialist Supervisor or Transportation Planning Specialist 2, or three years of related experience with a relevant degree.
• Experience in GIS; residency requirements may apply.
• Ability to lead staff and coordinate across functions.

Responsibilities

• GIS Oversight: Guide creation, maintenance, and analysis of spatial data for planning and engineering
• Staff Management: Direct specialists and coach team members to use the best available data
• Software Utilization: Manage the use of GIS software tools to produce maps and spatial products
• Coordination Efforts: Work with internal and external groups to support GIS distribution, training, and communication
• Data Integration: Evaluate and integrate external spatial data sets to improve cartographic functions
• Strategic Support: Assist leaders with implementing division initiatives and improving GIS operations
