Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania seeks a Transportation Planning Specialist Trainee to support statewide transportation planning and engineering through geospatial reviews and GIS-enabled data analysis.

You will develop GIS skills using Bentley, Adobe and Esri in a collaborative environment while contributing to map production and data maintenance activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics, planning, computer science, geography, earth science, economics, finance, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
• You must meet the PA residency requirement.

This role introduces you to technical and business functions that support transportation planning and engineering. You will build skills that support statewide planning efforts and data analysis. As a Transportation Planning Specialist Trainee, you will perform the following duties:

• Geospatial Analysis: Conduct geospatial reviews of transportation plans and projects
• Software Skills: Develop ability with Bentley, Adobe, and Esri tools to produce spatial data and visuals
• Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Applications: Learn and work with GIS-based applications to support planning needs
• Data Maintenance: Maintain and link transportation datasets that support planning and reporting
• Map Production: Assist with creating and updating maps and related cartographic products
• Technology Research: Support testing and evaluation of geospatial technologies for improved planning

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics, planning, computer science, geography, earth science, economics, finance, or a closely related field; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
