Job summary

Maine Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Planning Analyst to provide comprehensive research, evaluation, and planning services for towns, cities and counties in Maine. The role oversees LRAP, LTAP Center, highway classifications, inventories, and grant programs, and works closely with municipal officials statewide.

The incumbent will work independently on complex planning tasks, build relationships and ensure critical programs deliver essential resources to communities

Maine Department of Transportation Salary: $51,500.80 - $72,259.20 per year Office/Bureau: Bureau of Planning Opening Date: September 28, 2026 Closing Date: October 28, 2026

The Transportation Planning Analyst is a pivotal role within the Department of Transportation, responsible for providing comprehensive research, evaluation, and planning services related to Maine's towns, cities, and counties. The position will primarily oversee and help to manage key state programs, including the Local Road Assistance Program (LRAP), the LTAP Center, highway classifications, state and local road inventories, urban compact boundaries, and grant programs. The incumbent will work independently to perform complex planning and analysis tasks, and collaborating closely with all levels of municipal officials in rural and urban areas of Maine's towns, cities, and counties. This role requires building and nurturing relationships, establishing credibility, and managing critical state programs that provide essential resources to local governments.

To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience: A six (6) year combination of education, training, and/or experience in planning and program development with specific background in specialized field as necessary (i.e. environmental planning, economic planning, historic preservation, etc).
