The Station Planning group is responsible for planning the functional design and operation of subway stations, with a focus on customer flow through stations. Our goal is to ensure that station circulation functions at guideline level of service both now and well into the future.
The position entails analyzing current and projected future passenger flow within stations and determining efficient layouts and/or required sizing of circulation and fare control elements including, but not limited to, stairs, escalators, passageways, and turnstiles. In addition to ridership demand, Station Planners consider emergency egress requirements, accessibility for people with disabilities, and convenience for intermodal connections.
Responsibilities also include analyzing and recommending construction phasing strategies and station operation plans, determining utility of potential easements, evaluating environmental review documents, and assessing the short- and long-term impacts of subway service changes.
