Job summary

Staffmark Group in Northbrook, IL is seeking a Transportation Planner to join our Transportation team. The role reports to the Transportation Operations Team Lead and will secure services from transportation providers to meet company and customer shipping requirements. The position features a daytime schedule and competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred unless otherwise specified.
• 3-5 years' relevant experience required; 5-7 years' experience preferred.
• TMS/SAP experience preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Effectively manage carrier selection utilizing the Transportation Management System (TMS).
• Follow the current carrier rt guide while meeting customer and manufacturing site requirements.
• Proficiency in executing load tendering processes with timely follow up.
• Create effective plans to meet customer service requirements at the optimal cost.
• Address shipment events and problem solve with internal and external stakeholders.
• Understand freight performance measures, support investigations, and provide feedback on carrier performance.
• Monitor carrier performance to drive high service metrics.
• Review and approve exception accessorial charges in real time with surcharge notes for finance.
• Participate in rotating schedule covering after hours Transportation supervision and optimization.

Job Duties

• Effectively manage carrier selection utilizing the Transportation Management System (TMS)
• Follow the current carrier rt guide while meeting the requirements and objectives of our customers and manufacturing sites.
• Proficiency in executing load tendering processes with timely follow up.
• Able to create effective plans to meet customer service requirements at the optimal cost.
• Address all assignment-specific shipment events and problem solve resolution with internal and external stakeholders
• Able to understand freight performance measures, support investigation, and provide feedback on carrier performance.
• Monitors and actively engages in carrier performance to drive high service metrics.
• Reviews and approves exception accessorial charges in real time by adding surcharge notes at the shipment level for clear visibility for our finance team.
• Participates in a rotating schedule covering after hrs Transportation Supervise, optimize, and execute specialized business

Education Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred unless otherwise specified.
• Additional education, certifications, or vocational training may be beneficial depending on the position.
• 3-5 years' relevant experience required; 5-7 years' experience preferred.
• High School Diploma Required, bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience Requirements

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.

• Commitment to quality, safety, professionalism, and dependable attendance.
• Ability to learn new processes, procedures, equipment, or software as required.
• TMS/SAP experience preferred.
• Liquid Bulk Experience preferred.
