Job summary

State of Vermont in Jamaica, VT is seeking a Transportation Operations Technician II in the Department of Transportation. The role performs highway maintenance tasks such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees, patching roads, litter pickup, and ditching, with additional duties as assigned.

In winter, the position may require plowing and salting, and overtime can occur. The job may also involve basic vehicle/equipment maintenance and other related tasks.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor INCLUDING EITHER one season of operating a snowplow with wings OR six (6) months of operating medium or heavy equipment, such as graders, excavators, and backhoes.
• OR
• Upon successful completion of original probation as a Transportation Operations Technician I AND possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.

Responsibilities

• Repair guardrails, cut trees/brush, patch roads, and pick up litter as part of highway maintenance.
• Perform ditching and other roadside maintenance tasks.
• Assist with plowing and salting during winter months; overtime may be required.
• Assist in vehicle and equipment maintenance as needed.
