Job summary

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is hiring seasonal Transportation Operations Technicians to support highway maintenance in Highgate Center, VT. This temporary, part-time position involves yard work, road maintenance tasks, and winter plowing responsibilities.

Overtime may be required, and the job requires the ability to work outdoors in extreme weather. A Class A CDL with tanker endorsement is required within six months of employment, with additional VTTC coursework to complete.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor INCLUDING EITHER one season of operating a snowplow with wings OR six (6) months of operating medium or heavy equipment, such as graders, excavators, and backhoes.
• OR
• Upon successful completion of original probation as a Transportation Operations Technician I AND possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.

Responsibilities

• Repair guardrails, patch pavement, ditching, brush clearing and litter pickup.
• Overtime may be required, especially during winter weather events and heavy snowfall.
