The Agency of Transportation in Vermont is seeking seasonal Transportation Operations Technicians for maintaining bridges and highways. In this temporary role, candidates will be responsible for various manual tasks such as repairing roads and handling heavy equipment, while ensuring safety during challenging weather conditions.
The Agency of Transportation is seeking seasonal Transportation Operations Technicians in Colchester. These positions will be responsible for various tasks related to bridge and highway maintenance, such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching bridges and roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. It is anticipated that these positions will work 40 hours per week for approximately seven months.
This position, Transportation Operations Technician II - Temporary (Job Requisition #52543), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Duties require the ability to withstand exposure to extreme outdoor weather. An incumbent must be available for considerable overtime during heavy snowfall or other emergencies. Employees may be required to report to work outside of their scheduled hours and must be reachable by phone. The job involves using tools and lifting materials common in maintenance work. Work may involve hazards such as heavy equipment, hazardous materials, roadside debris, and exposure to blood or airborne pathogens. Working on roads with moving traffic poses safety risks. Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required. Considerable overtime work is especially necessary during winter months and is a condition of employment.
One (1) year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor, including either one season of operating a snowplow with wings or six (6) months of operating medium or heavy equipment such as graders, excavators, and backhoes.

Successful completion of original probation as a Transportation Operations Technician I and possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.
A Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
The incumbent must live within reasonable proximity of the assigned workstation.
Possession of a Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement is required within the first six months of employment.
All employees must complete VTTC required coursework within one year or be enrolled in the program.
Note: Non-original probationary employees must obtain the required CDL license before completing six months of service.
