Job Description
Summary:
The Manager of Transportation is responsible for supervising and coordinating transportation operations, developing and implementing transportation strategies, and ensuring compliance with federal and state transportation regulations. The Manager also manages transportation-related risks and maintains transportation equipment.
This position requires an excellent leader, strategist, and problem-solver capable of managing complex logistics, budgets, compliance, and effective communication.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all transportation functions within the organization, including:
- Developing and implementing transportation policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency, including driver behavior, vehicle maintenance, and route planning.
- Managing drivers and transportation staff, vehicle maintenance, and route coordination.
- Ensuring proper maintenance and functionality of transportation vehicles, overseeing repairs, and managing the lifecycle of transportation equipment.
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable transportation laws and regulations, staying updated on relevant legal requirements.
- Implementing and maintaining safety policies, and training staff on safety best practices.
- Hiring, training, and mentoring transportation staff to meet performance expectations.
- Conducting regular meetings with drivers on a monthly basis.
Experience Requirements
- Five to ten years of experience in transportation or logistics, with management or supervisory experience.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and execute transportation operations, including incident management and risk assessments.
Education
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; or a combination of education and related experience.
- 2- or 4-year college degree in business management, supply chain management, or a similar field.
Skills / Certification Requirements
- Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, DOT rules, and related compliance software such as SAMSARA / SYGMA.
- DOT regulations training certification.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on safety and regulatory compliance.
