Transportation Manager

Position Overview
The Transportation Manager will ensure safe, legal, and timely delivery of freight to member stores throughout the assigned territory. The manager provides direction and oversight of all transportation‑related functions at the assigned territory and associated transportation hubs, and may travel on route as needed for business operations.
Schedule
Monday through Friday with occasional after‑hours or weekends as needed.

Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate route drivers for maximum performance and customer service.
- Investigate and resolve customer complaints related to in‑store service and delivery.
- Ensure full compliance with all company quality assurance standards.
- Develop annual cost‑savings initiatives aligned with the company’s strategic plan.
- Manage the department’s annual operating budget and assist in cost analysis.
- Oversee hiring, supervision, scheduling and termination of personnel.
- Effectively schedule, supervise and direct transportation personnel.
- Monitor driver performance weekly through Motive and Ortec, counsel on performance issues and improvement areas.
- Create a team‑oriented environment through supervisor development, performance appraisals, and communication of updates to processes, procedures and policies.
- Ensure personnel understand and implement safety and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Manage fleet utilization, tracking vehicle and equipment status, monitoring equipment on the out‑of‑service report, and holding service providers accountable for repairs identified within DVIRs and PMs.
- Ensure compliance with DOT hours of service, provide immediate feedback and corrective action, using NDCP standard disciplinary action for HOS violations.
- Work with the Safety Manager to enforce safe driving techniques using the Motive AI Camera system to identify risky behaviors, proper lifting and training in all required DOT regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision exercised: Yes; this role will supervise Transportation Supervisors, a team of three, with oversight of a department of approximately 90 associate drivers, delivery assistants and dispatch staff.
Qualifications
- BS/BA preferred.
- 5‑7 years of multi‑state transportation management experience in the food distribution industry.
- Demonstrated mastery of the Federal Motor Carrier Rules and Regulations.
- Knowledge of related OSHA standards and regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Manhattan Active and SAP experience preferred.
- On‑Board Computer System experience required; Motive preferred.
- Preferred experience with routing software; Ortec preferred.
- Experience with third‑party maintenance vendors.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership and decision‑making capabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Willing and able to work flexible/extended schedules as needed.
- Class A CDL preferred.
