Job summary

City of Hickory is seeking an Assistant Street Maintenance Supervisor responsible for ensuring compliance with transportation construction, maintenance, and installation standards. The role includes field inspections, crew supervision, and coordination with contractors.

The position requires knowledge of transportation construction principles, local regulations, budgeting basics, and strong communication skills. CDL is preferred and heavy manual labor may be involved.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of transportation construction, repair, and maintenance principles and practices.

• Knowledge of local government budgeting, financial management and purchasing practices.
• Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

• Assists in planning and supervision of transportation crews.
• Reviews projects for technical accuracy (plans, profiles, water/sewer plans, site plans, erosion and stormwater plans).
• Pre-plans transportation projects to be performed by City crews.
• Inspects city projects during roadway and drainage work; informs contractors of noncompliance.
• Coordinates work of contractors; investigates encroachments; inspects utility street cuts and materials.
• Performs on-site field investigations and inspections for design and construction; meets with citizens.
• Inspects a wide variety of construction elements.
• Assists purchasing with technical guidance.
• Conducts safety inspections for city and contract crews.
• Performs other related duties; after-hours work during emergencies or weather.
