Job summary

City of Hickory is seeking a Civil Engineer II to provide professional engineering services for Public Services Traffic Division and assist with citizen concerns. This role reports to the Traffic Division Manager and may be designated as Civil Engineer II.

Applicants must meet driving record criteria and salary depends on qualifications. The position involves designing traffic and street projects, managing teams on various projects, and coordinating with agencies and contractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
• Sufficient experience or apprenticeship related to the major duties; licensure as EI or PE preferred.
• Valid driver's license is required for the type of vehicle operated.

Responsibilities

• Provides designs on projects requiring licensure, such as streets, signals, and traffic studies.
• Acts as project manager or team member on maintenance, design, and construction projects.
• Serves on city committees as assigned.
• Provides engineering designs and cost estimates for other departments.
• Coordinates activities with city/state/federal agencies and private contractors.
• Performs traffic studies for traffic calming, signal timing, and related projects.
• Reviews plans for compliance with city ordinances and policies.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
