Job summary

The City of Hickory is seeking a skilled Street Maintenance Worker to operate heavy equipment and perform manual tasks on department projects. You will drive and operate a range of vehicles and support crews in street maintenance, repair, and construction activities.

The role requires the ability to read and write, basic math, and a valid NC CDL-B license or higher. You may be required to work after hours and in varied weather conditions to keep the city’s streets safe.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid NC CDL Class B license required; Class A preferred.
• Able to meet City driving record criteria.

Responsibilities

• Operates a variety of equipment or vehicles such as tractor, snow plow, street flusher, loader, backhoe, or street sweeper.
• Hauls and loads materials and equipment.
• Performs street repair, maintenance, and construction tasks.
• Maintains vehicles, equipment, and tools.
• Mows rights-of-way and removes debris, snow, and ice hazards.
• Assists with concrete installation and forms, grades, finishing.
• Assists with storm drain installation and replacement.
• Sets up and cleans up for special events.
