Our client is a globally recognized consumer products organization with a large and fast-paced distribution network supporting retail, B2B, and trade customers across the United States. Our client is seeking a Transportation & Freight Coordinator to join their team.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$30/hr - $35/hr
Position Overview:
The Transportation & Freight Coordinator will support the day-to-day movement of outbound shipments across retail, B2B, and trade channels. This is a hands-on coordination role focused on setting up freight shipments, monitoring delivery performance, responding to ad hoc requests, and resolving exceptions with carriers and internal business partners. The ideal candidate has experience coordinating LTL freight and is comfortable independently managing multiple shipments, deadlines, and stakeholders in a high-volume corporate environment.
Responsibilities of the Transportation & Freight Coordinator:
- Set up and coordinate approximately 1-20 freight shipments per week.
- Support a combination of Less-than-Truckload (LTL) and Full Truckload (FTL) shipments, with a heavier emphasis on LTL.
- Coordinate carrier pickups, delivery requirements, shipment details, and transportation documentation.
- Monitor a high volume of scheduled retail shipments and address service issues or escalations.
- Track shipments from setup through delivery and maintain accurate status information.
- Respond to ad hoc transportation requests from different areas of the business.
- Investigate missed pickups, delays, damages, delivery issues, and other shipment exceptions.
- Communicate shipment updates and recovery plans to carriers, logistics partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor carrier performance and follow up on recurring service concerns.
- Partner with distribution centers, retail teams, B2B teams, customer service, and external transportation providers.
- Maintain transportation records, shipment data, and operational reports.
- Help streamline freight coordination processes and improve overall service.
Required Experience/Skills for the Transportation & Freight Coordinator:
- 1-2 years of experience in freight, transportation, logistics, shipping, supply chain, or a similar coordination-focused role.
- Hands-on LTL shipment coordination or management experience required.
- Experience coordinating processes with multiple steps, deadlines, and stakeholders.
- Comfortable working directly with carriers, logistics providers, internal teams, and customers.
- Able to independently manage a high volume of requests in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond to shipment disruptions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general business systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized, responsive, and attentive to detail.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Transportation & Freight Coordinator:
- Experience with a Transportation Management System (TMS), ERP, OMS, or carrier platform is preferred.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, Materials Management, or a related field.
