Job summary

State of South Carolina, through the Department of Transportation, seeks an assistant to support the Engineer Technician III in processing residential driveway and encroachment permit applications and reviewing utility use permits.

You will perform field inspections on DOT right-of-ways, maintain permit records, liaise with utility concerns and contractors, and help ensure compliance with regulations. Some travel, overtime during emergencies, and lifting up to 50 lbs may be required.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience; relevant experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Assist Engineer Technician III in receiving and processing applications for residential driveways installation.
• Assist in receiving and processing applications for encroachment and utility use permits.
• Operate a vehicle to conduct periodic field inspections on work under encroachment permits to ensure compliance with SCDOT regulations.
• Maintain HMMS permit database and hard copies of all permits issued; forward permits to ARME for approval and make recommendations on other permits.
