Job summary

• Inspect traffic control on maintenance projects and monitor weather-related impacts.
• Perform duties during inclement weather and other emergencies.

(Aiken Maintenance)

Assists in conducting inspections for moderate level contracts such as roadway mowing, vegetation, tree removal, street sweeping, etc. where field measurements for payment are required. Assists in reviewing and recommending moderate level encroachment permits for approval. Inspects residential encroachment permits. Performs routine inspections of roadways to include high/low shoulders, pavement markings, signs, potholes, ditches and other roadway defects. Inspects traffic control on maintenance projects. Performs duties during inclement weather. Performs other related duties as assigned.

A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
