Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation invites enrolled students for an internship that integrates classroom knowledge with practical field experience in engineering support and project activities. You will work alongside engineers and technicians to observe, learn, and contribute to ongoing transport projects.

You will assist with project documentation, data entry, equipment maintenance, and coordination with staff.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled full-time in an Associate’s degree program or higher.
• Basic knowledge of engineering principles.
• Must be at least 18 years of age by start of employment.
• Full-time graduate status or full-time undergraduate status during internship.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with VDOT staff and external contacts; proactively resolve issues.
• Apply engineering technology principles to assigned program areas.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on testing equipment.
• Prepare and maintain daily documentation of project activities.
• Maintain accurate records and manage data to meet deadlines.
