Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation invites students enrolled in an Associate’s degree or higher to engage in planned, education-related work experiences that integrate classroom knowledge with practical application in the workplace.

As a student intern, you will communicate with staff, assist with project documentation, and apply engineering principles to assigned programs while learning to interpret plans and specifications.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled full-time in an Associate’s degree program or higher.
• Basic knowledge of engineering principles.
• Must be at least 18 years old by the start of employment.
• Must maintain a full-time student status taking 9+ credit hours per semester before and following internship.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with staff and external contacts; proactively resolve issues at the lowest level.
• Apply principles of engineering technology to assigned program areas; interpret policies and procedures.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on testing equipment.
• Prepare and maintain daily documentation of project activities; ensure documentation is submitted on time.
• Maintain accurate records for all project activities; enter and update data to meet deadlines.
