Job summary

State of Michigan is seeking a Transportation Engineer Licensed Specialist to lead bridge rehabilitation, replacement and new construction projects across the state. The role emphasizes coordinating consultants, ensuring design conformance, and maintaining schedules and budgets.

You will collaborate with MDOT teams, consultants, and external partners to deliver practical transportation solutions that strengthen Michigan’s infrastructure and communities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering required.
• Four years of professional experience equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including two years at P11 or one year at 12 or Licensed 12.
• Must possess a registered professional engineering license in Michigan.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple consultants for MDOT bridge rehabilitation, replacement or new construction.
• Prepare and review design of bridge projects of varying complexity.
• Prepare proposal material and review project-related documents.
• Oversee work activities of professional transportation engineers.
• Assist unit supervisors in project review and coordination.
• Develop scopes of work and budgets for trunkline bridge projects with contracted consultants.
• Coordinate MDOT projects with other state agencies and outside entities.
• Initiate preparation of agreements with cities, counties and railroads.
• Initiate permit applications to EGLE, USACE, US Coast Guard, and local authorities.
