Job summary

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is hiring a Transportation Engineer 2 to support utility accommodation and project delivery within the highway right of way. You will review utility permits, coordinate with owners, and help ensure safe, compliant utility facilities alongside project staff and inspectors.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated understanding of civil/structural/geotechnical/transportation engineering principles.
• Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, standards, policies and procedures to project work.
• Coordinate utility reviews, permits, and franchise agreements with internal staff and external parties.

Responsibilities

• Review utility applications for placement in state right-of-way.
• Prepare supporting documents, descriptions, and exhibits.
• Coordinate regional approvals and ensure compliance with requirements.
• Record permits/franchises in the UFP database.
• Inspect contractors and utility work within the right-of-way.
• Identify and resolve utility conflicts.
• Coordinate utility installations within project limits.
• Assist with public disclosure requests for the region.
