Job summary

Ohio Department of Transportation is offering a Transportation Engineer 1 or Transportation Engineer 2 role with a structured 12-month training plan and rotations through Planning & Engineering, Construction and Highway Maintenance.

Selected candidates will work alongside seasoned ODOT engineers, receiving hands-on transportation engineering experience to advance their careers within the agency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering; EIT exam required/accepted by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors.
  • For TE2: Engineer-In-Training certificate or equivalent; 12 months as Transportation Engineer 1 or 2 years engineering experience; EIT or equivalent required/can substitute for experience.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a 12-month training program rotating through Planning & Engineering, Construction and Highway Maintenance.
  • Work alongside ODOT professional engineers and gain hands-on transportation training.
  • Assist in activities that develop professional engineering skills within the department.

Job description

Transportation Engineer 1 (TE1) or Transportation Engineer 2 (TE2)

The selected candidate will be placed in the classification in which they meet minimum qualifications.

Transportation Engineer 1 or Transportation Engineer 2 hire will complete ODOT's Transportation Civil Engineering Program to include a 12-month training plan & scheduled rotation through the department's core engineering disciplines: Planning & Engineering, Construction and Highway Maintenance.

Transportation Engineer 1:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering; Accepted for Basic Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (EIT exam) by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors.
Transportation Engineer 2:
  • Valid certificate as Engineer-In-Training issued or accepted as equivalent by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 12 mos. exp. as Transportation Engineer 1, 85641.
  • -Or Bachelor's degree in engineering; valid certificate as Engineer-In-Training issued or accepted as equivalent by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; 2 yrs. engineering related experience.
  • -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated registration.
