Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Roadway Group Pre-Design Section Manager, this position is responsible for preparing and reviewing project scoping documentation, including Scoping Letters, Project Assessment Reports, Planning Level Scoping, and others. It also involves reviewing construction documentation, technical reports, and encroachment permit applications for compliance with AASHTO and ADOT design guidance. The role includes preparing design and construction plans, acting as the ADA Coordinator, ensuring implementation of Performance Based Practical Design, and representing ADOT at technical meetings.

This position may offer remote work options within Arizona based on departmental needs and performance.

Job Duties

• Manage and review project scoping documentation for completeness and compliance.
• Participate in updating roadway standards and guidelines.
• Implement and support PBPD concepts on projects.
• Represent ADOT at meetings and site visits.
• Perform compliance reviews and assist in preparing design and construction documentation.
• Provide technical expertise in legal proceedings related to roadway design.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of Civil Engineering principles, Federal and State regulations, project management, and public participation.
• Skills in communication, research, data analysis, computer applications, and Google Workspace.
• Ability to communicate clearly, analyze complex data, develop standards, and conduct meetings effectively.

Selective Preferences

• Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering or related field; relevant training and experience.
• Experience as a Transportation Engineer; some travel required.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license, be registered as a Professional Engineer in Arizona or eligible for reciprocity, and pass background checks. All new hires must complete E-Verify.
