Transportation Engineer

Job Location: 4213-PAVEMENT MANAGEMENT, 1221 N. 21st Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85009

Posting Details: Salary: $85,200 - $95,000, Anticipated Salary: $90,200, Grade: 26, Closing Date: June 22, 2025

Job Summary

The position is in the Pavement Management unit and reports to the Pavement Preservation Engineer. This role involves preparing construction smoothness and incentive/disincentive reports, verifying pavement construction data, and working with the Pavement Management System (PMS) to analyze pavement needs and develop priority programs. The employee will verify and review treatment/construction types, plans, and data to calculate incentive/disincentive amounts and work with districts to resolve issues.

Work Environment & Remote Work

This position may offer remote work within Arizona, based on department needs and performance. The department promotes a flexible, autonomous work culture, with remote work options available within Arizona unless otherwise authorized.

Job Duties
  1. Prepare construction smoothness and incentive/disincentive reports.
  2. Verify pavement construction data including mileposts, lane numbers, and exceptions.
  3. Review and approve quality control plans submitted by contractors.
  4. Utilize the Pavement Management System for pavement preservation and rehabilitation planning.
  5. Monitor and analyze pavement condition data.
  6. Perform field inspections.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Pavement smoothness and IRI calculations
  • Pavement management systems and preservation techniques
  • Pavement conditions and distress analysis
  • Relational databases and civil engineering practices

  • Interpersonal relations

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's in Civil Engineering or related field, coursework in Computer Science or Information Management, and one year of database management experience.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Arizona PE license, valid driver’s license, and successful completion of E-Verify.
