Summary

The purpose of the Transportation Driver position is to assist residents with commuting to and from appointments and designated locations. Assigned duties may vary by location; however, all Transportation Drivers are expected to fill gaps in their traveling schedules with constructive job duties.

Duties & Responsibilities

The following represents the essential functions of the Transportation Driver's role. This list is intended to be a general description of duties and responsibilities; however, it is subject to change according to the needs of the facility determined by the Director of Nursing and/or Administrator.

  • Complete and maintain adequate training regarding operation of the facility vehicle(s), vehicle equipment, safety harness/strap system, transportation policies, transportation forms, vehicle checks, and reporting maintenance needs.
  • Transport residents timely and safely by following van, lift, and strap system manufacturer guidelines.
  • Complete facility errands requiring a vehicle to include, but not limited to, transporting resident belongings, facility equipment, documents, medication, shopping needs for residents, specimens, etc. to the desired location as determined by the Director of Nursing and/or Administrator.
  • Act as facility liaison to communicate any occurrences and information from medical entities with the facility such as progress notes, follow-up appointments, etc.
  • Always provide distraction-free operation of facility vehicles. No cell phone usage during vehicle operation.
  • Always lock vehicle upon parking/leaving unattended.
  • Assure residents are fed appropriately by bringing prepared snack/meal from the dietary department. If an unplanned/prolonged trip causes a resident to miss a meal, provide required documentation for meal expenditure(s) in a timely manner.
  • May sit at the nurses' station to monitor resident needs, answer call lights, answer phones, and assist with facility workflow.
  • May assist with scheduling appointments and/or notification of residents and/or their responsible parties of upcoming or rescheduled appointments.
  • May assist with supplies ordering, stocking, and/or inventory.
  • May assist with medical record organization and filing.
  • May, if Certified Nursing Assistant, assist with residents on the hall or during meal service.
  • Use appropriate tone and professional phone etiquette with residents, healthcare providers, visitors, and vendors.
  • Communicate messages in writing or verbally to the appropriate personnel without delay.
  • Assist and direct visitors and vendors to appropriate facility staff or resident location.
  • May assist in documenting complaints or medical records requests and be familiar with facility policies and procedures.
  • May retrieve faxes and distribute them timely/appropriately.
  • May have data entry responsibilities to include, but not limited to census and lab orders.
  • Maintain a clean facility vehicle stocked with supplies as needed and/or follow the vehicle supplies checklist.
  • May assist with housekeeping/environmental services duties such as keeping work area and nurses/stations clean, chart rooms clean and organized, and spot cleaning in high-touch areas.
  • May monitor doors, be assigned to Fire Watch duties, be assigned to resident one-on-one supervision, and enforce sign-in/out logs.
  • May assist other facility personnel or perform special projects as needed.
  • May complete other clerical tasks as assigned by supervisors.
  • Act in ways that promote professional and positive representation of the facility to the community.
  • Communicate in a professional and courteous manner using effective verbal and non-verbal communication with residents, their families, co-workers, care providers, and vendors.
  • Maintain confidentiality of department, resident, and employee information, communication, and documentation and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Record working hours per company policy. Clocks in and out for all working/training hours.
  • Maintain compliance with Legacy's Compliance program and plan.
  • Adhere to Legacy's Code of Conduct and Dress Code.
  • These duties are not all-inclusive but provide minimum performance expectations which will be reviewed in the evaluation process. Supervisors may edit, alter, add to, or exclude duties and responsibilities based on the needs of the facility.
Qualifications / Experience / Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Freedom from illegal use of drugs
  • Freedom from use and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace
  • Anyone found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals in a healthcare-related setting is ineligible for employment in the position
  • Flexible working hours
Education and/or Experience
  • High School Diploma preferred
  • Experience in a long-term care setting preferred, but not required
  • Clerical experience preferred, but not required
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Maintain good driving record
