Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation in Austin seeks Design Tech Specialist II, III or IV to provide high-level technical expertise for design, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, and highway maintenance compliant with Department standards.

Role includes coordinating utility permits, project planning, and policy development. Requires driving a state vehicle and collaboration with officials, consultants, and contractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related discipline; substitutions for education allowed on a year-for-year basis.
• Transportation Specialist II requires 4 years of transportation design/construction/traffic operations/maintenance/bridge inspection experience (full-time or prorated).
• Transportation Specialist III & IV require 5 years of transportation design/construction/traffic operations/maintenance/bridge inspection experience (full-time or prorated).
• Valid driver’s license; driving a state vehicle may be required.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and analyzes highly complex design issues.
• Assists in overseeing design work among TxDOT entities, consultants and contractors.
• Assists in overseeing project design involving design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts and typical sections.
• Assists in planning, administering and monitoring district maintenance contracts and service agreements.
• Coordinates communication between district/division/Department of Public Safety and other external entities.
