Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation in Austin seeks Transportation Engineer II–IV to perform advanced design, project development and roadway maintenance tasks. The role involves independent work with periodic supervision for unusual issues, and requires driving state vehicles to project sites.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's in engineering, 5–7 years of transportation experience depending on level, and a PE license or pathway to licensure. A valid Texas driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science (TX PELS accepted).
• 5–7 years of transportation engineering experience for levels II–IV.
• Valid driver’s license with ability to drive state vehicle.
• Professional Engineer license required or to be obtained per Texas rules.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced engineering design including layouts, sketches, plans, specs, estimates and contracts.
• May serve as project manager overseeing consultants.
• Monitor progress, review invoices and agreements.
• Develop and review PS&E, traffic control plans, and roadway designs.
• Drive to project locations for on-site reviews and technical support.
