Job summary

Jacobs in Boise is seeking a Transportation Design Engineer to join our highway and bridge team across Idaho and the Pacific Northwest. You will apply roadway design expertise and work with a collaborative team to deliver high-quality PS&E packages.

The ideal candidate has a B.S. in Civil Engineering, PE eligibility in Idaho, 4–8+ years of experience, and proficiency with MicroStation/OpenRoads or AutoCAD/Civil 3D; experience with storm drainage is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from a U.S. ABET accredited institution or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineering registration in Idaho or the ability to obtain within six months if licensed in another state.
  • 4-8+ years of experience in transportation roadway and highway design
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience using CADD/Design software (Microstation/OpenRoads or AutoCAD/Civil 3D)

Responsibilities

  • Perform roadway and highway design using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil 3D
  • Support the development of roadway plans, drainage plans and design-related calculations
  • Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, project managers, and clients
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates to ensure accuracy and quality
  • Assist in guiding interns and junior engineers, contributing to technical problem-solving and team growth
  • Identify design challenges and develop innovative, practical solutions
  • Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and coordination activities across all project phases

Your impact

Jacobs is seeking a Transportation Design Engineer to join our Boise office in support of our transportation team on highway and bridge projects throughout Idaho and the Pacific NW. You’ll work in a team-based, collaborative, and diligent environment. You will apply your highway and roadway design expertise to solve complex problems; take a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions; and use your technical knowledge to develop unique, high quality designs. The ideal candidate will also have experience in storm drainage analysis and design. This position will also involve preparation of technical reports and memoranda, and preparation of construction plans, estimates, and specifications (PS&E).

Responsibilities could include but are not limited to

Here’s what you’ll need

Ideally, You’ll Also Have
  • Experience designing roadway storm sewer systems.
  • Experience with ACHD, ITD, LTHAC, FHWA or other municipalities and agencies throughout Idaho and the Pacific NW.

The base salary range for this position is $102,900.00 to $165,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
