Job summary

BKF Engineers, Inc. is seeking an Area Lead - Transportation Design to grow and oversee BKF's transportation design services in Northern California. You will drive market growth, manage client relationships, and lead multi-project delivery across highway, municipal, transit, and airport projects.

The role requires 12+ years in engineering, a strong doer-seller mindset, and proven leadership. California PE preferred; travel across the North Bay and Sacramento Valley will be involved.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in the engineering industry with project management
• Proven business development and client relationship management
• Established relationships with Northern California transportation agencies
• Led major transportation infrastructure pursuits
• Doer-seller with market leadership and project delivery expertise
• Strong leadership of teams and multiple projects
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Proficiency with project management software/tools
• Detail-oriented with commitment to quality
• Bachelor's in Civil Engineering; California PE preferred

Responsibilities

• Own and execute transportation market strategy in Northern California, including pipeline and backlog
• Collaborate with other BKF units for integrated client solutions
• Lead major pursuits for highway, municipal, transit, and airports projects
• Serve as primary BKF Transportation contact with agency executives and program leaders
• Oversee day-to-day area operations and KPI performance
• Manage project budgets and resource allocation across multiple projects
• Develop and maintain client relationships to grow business
• Implement QA/QC processes throughout project lifecycle
• Mentor staff and foster cross-office collaboration
• Participate in strategic planning and regional marketing efforts
