The District utilizes a private contractor for its regular yellow-bus transportation and also owns and operates a fleet of vehicles that provide transportation for students with disabilities and other specialized transportation needs. The Transportation Coordinator will have direct responsibility for the day-to-day operation and supervision of the District-operated transportation program while also overseeing and coordinating services provided by contracted transportation vendors.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the District’s fleet of special education transportation vehicles.
  • Develop and adjust special education and specialized transportation routes to maximize efficiency while meeting student needs.
  • Supervise District-employed drivers, monitors, and other transportation staff, including scheduling, assignments, attendance, performance, and coverage.
  • Coordinate substitute drivers and monitors and respond to daily staffing or transportation issues.
  • Work collaboratively with the Student Services Department to implement transportation requirements contained in student IEPs and other plans.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to questions and concerns from parents/guardians, school administrators, and staff.
  • Troubleshoot transportation issues and develop practical, timely solutions when routes, staffing, vehicles, weather, construction, or other circumstances disrupt service.
  • Maintain accurate transportation records, route information, vehicle documentation, and other required records.
  • Coordinate vehicle maintenance, inspections, registrations, and other fleet-related requirements.
  • Monitor contractor performance and assist District leadership in addressing service concerns and evaluating transportation operations.
  • Assist with transportation planning, budgeting, invoicing, and efforts to improve operational efficiency and control costs.
  • Ensure transportation operations comply with applicable District policies and local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in school transportation, fleet operations, logistics, dispatching, operations management, or a related field.
  • Experience supervising employees and managing schedules, routes, or other complex daily operations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records and schedules.
  • Comfort using technology, spreadsheets, databases, routing software, and other operational systems.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a larger District team.
  • A commitment to student safety, reliability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
