Job summary

Tectonic Engineering in Glastonbury, CT is seeking a Transportation Construction Manager / Resident Engineer for upcoming public sector projects in the Glastonbury area. This full-time role offers leadership over field staff, contract negotiations, and coordination with clients and contractors.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Civil Engineering, CT PE license or eligibility, 10+ years of experience, strong planning, budgeting, and communication skills, plus willingness to travel to project sites

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering with CT PE license eligibility or ability to obtain CT PE license soon.
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering, construction management, and transportation experience; ConnDOT experience preferred.
  • Ability to interpret plans and specifications and perform complex computations.
  • Strong written and oral communications and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, PDF tools, and project budgeting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage public sector transportation projects, oversee field staff, and provide leadership to project teams.
  • Lead contract negotiations with clients, contractors, and subs to secure favorable terms.
  • Establish and monitor project schedules and budgets; assist with billing and invoicing.
  • Participate in business development including proposals, marketing, and trade shows as needed.
  • Perform site visits and ensure successful project completion.
  • Handle related duties to ensure project success.

Tectonic is currently seeking a full-time Transportation Construction Manager / Resident Engineer interested in working on upcoming projects in the Glastonbury, CT area. This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-profile and challenging projects and for professional growth and development!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assists with management of various public sector engineering and transportation projects, including oversight and project review, visiting field offices, and filling-in to support project staff as needed;
  • Provides leadership to field staff and engineering teams;
  • Performs contract negotiations with clients, contractors, and subcontractors to obtain rates and contract amendments for the benefit of the Company;
  • Establishes and monitors schedules and budgets as they relate to assigned projects, and assists with billing reviews and invoicing as needed;
  • Assists with business development efforts, including proposal development, marketing activities, and traveling to trade shows/industry events as needed to assist in development process;
  • Performs project site visits as needed;
  • All related duties as required to ensure the successful completion of assigned projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering, with a valid Professional Engineering license and ability to obtain CT PE License within a reasonable time period;
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant engineering, construction management, and transportation experience; ConnDOT experience highly preferred;
  • Ability to perform complex quantity and engineering computations, and to review and interpret plans and specifications;
  • Ability to prepare correspondence, reports and recommendations concerning construction issues;
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills;
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to communicate effective, both orally and written, to coordinate with clients, supervisors, and managers;
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, PDF software, and the ability to learn applicable time reporting and budgeting programs;
  • Valid, acceptable driver’s license and personal vehicle to travel to meetings and sites as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the essential functions of this position, it is frequently necessary to:

  • Assume a stationary position,
  • Handle, inspect, and/or feel documents, materials and/or equipment relevant to the job;
  • Communicate with colleagues, supervisors, and clients using Company email and telephone systems;
  • Move around on the job-site, including ascending or descending on the landscape or on a ladder, and positioning oneself appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment, usually for prolonged periods of time,
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. for some types of monitoring and inspections,
  • Good visual skills, including focused depth perception, and
  • Regular daily operations of a motor-vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.

Employees may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT Regulations, and/or Company policy. The employee may occasionally be required to operate a computer, as well as other related office machinery, such as calculators, printers, and copy machines. Tectonic’s goal is to compensate employees fairly and equitably across all positions Companywide. Our advertised pay ranges are representative of our good faith effort to provide a reasonable anticipated salary range. The offered pay may be outside of the provided salary range based upon the selected candidate’s work location, experience, education, certifications, and capabilities compared to the advertised position.

Pay Range: $175,000 - $230,000
