Job summary

Tectonic is seeking a Chief Construction Inspector for projects in Glastonbury, CT and surrounding areas. This ENR Top 500 firm offers challenging infrastructure work, growth opportunities, and long‑term advancement in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities include supervising project progress, advising inspectors, preparing documents, and ensuring compliance with contracts and safety standards. Strong communication and DOT experience are required; NICET IV or CT PE and NETTCP certifications

Qualifications

  • Valid NICET IV certification or CT PE license with 5+ years in civil/highway engineering and 4+ years inspection.
  • ConnDOT or other DOT experience required.
  • NETTCP certifications a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prepare reports and maintain project records.
  • Must have OSHA safety certifications as required.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and have a vehicle for site travel.

Chief Construction Inspector

Location

Glastonbury, CT (On‑site work)

Overview

Tectonic is seeking a Chief Inspector for upcoming projects in Glastonbury, CT and surrounding areas. Essential Functions

Supervising, coordinating, and tracking the progress of construction projects, assisting and advising inspectors on project management, construction, and inspection issues, and alerting supervisors of major or consistent discrepancies. Prepare construction documents and records, comply with budget standards, perform inspections as needed, and provide assurance to clients that the project has been constructed in accordance with the contract documents, as well as all related duties as required.

Qualifications
  • Valid NICET IV certification OR CT PE License and minimum 5 years of experience in civil, highway, or relevant engineering field with 4 years of inspection experience and 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • ConnDOT experience or other DOT experience is required.
  • Relevant NETTCP certifications, or the ability to obtain them within a reasonable time period, is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written, and outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prepare correspondence, reports, and recommendations concerning construction issues and maintain project records.
  • Must have the ability to obtain OSHA Safety Certifications as required.
  • Understand the fundamentals of necessary inspection codes and requirements in order to carry out testing, and must be detail‑oriented.
  • Requires a valid, clean driver’s license and personal vehicle to travel to and within project sites, as regular daily travel is required.
Physical Requirements
  • Assume a stationary position.
  • Handle, inspect, or feel documents, materials, or equipment relevant to the job.
  • Communicate with colleagues, supervisors, and clients using company email and telephone systems.
  • Move around on the job‑site, including ascending or descending on the landscape or on a ladder, and positioning oneself appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment, usually for prolonged periods of time.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs for some types of monitoring and inspections.
  • Good visual skills, including focused depth perception.
  • Regular daily operations of a motor vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.

Employees may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT Regulations, and/or Company policy. The employee may occasionally be required to operate a computer, as well as other related office machinery, such as calculators, printers, and copy machines. The physical demands described above are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Pay Range

$65.00 – $75.00 per hour
