Job summary

Tectonic Engineering is seeking a Chief Inspector for upcoming projects in Glastonbury, CT and surrounding areas. You will supervise inspection teams, coordinate project progress, and ensure adherence to contract documents and DOT standards.

The role requires NICET IV or CT PE, 5+ years in civil/highway engineering with 4+ years inspection and 2+ years supervisory, plus strong communication and OSHA readiness. Travel to sites is expected.

Qualifications

  • NICET IV cert or CT PE license with 5+ years civil/highway engineering and 4+ years inspection, plus 2+ years supervisory.
  • ConnDOT or other DOT experience required.
  • NETTCP certifications, or ability to obtain within a reasonable time is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prepare correspondence, reports, and recommendations and maintain project records.
  • Must obtain OSHA safety certifications as required.
  • Understand inspection codes and be detail-oriented.
  • Must have a valid, clean driver’s license and travel to sites regularly.

  • Supervise, coordinate, and track progress of construction projects.
  • Advise inspectors on project management, construction, and inspection issues.
  • Prepare construction documents and records and ensure compliance with budget standards.
  • Perform inspections as needed and provide client assurance of contract conformity.
  • Maintain documentation and communicate findings to Supervisors.

Job description

Tectonic is seeking a Chief Inspector for upcoming projects in Glastonbury, CT and surrounding areas! ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential functions of the Chief Inspector position include supervising, coordinating, and tracking the progress of construction projects, assisting and advising inspectors regarding project management, construction, and inspection issues, and alerting supervisors of major or consistent discrepancies. They will also prepare construction documents and records, comply with budget standards, perform inspections as needed, and provide assurance to clients that the project has been constructed in accordance with the contract documents, as well as all related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid NICET IV certification OR CT PE License and a minimum of 5 years of experience in civil, highway, or relevant engineering field with 4 years of inspection experience and 2 years of supervisory experience;
  • ConnDOT experience or other DOT experience is required;
  • Relevant NETTCP certifications, or the ability to require them within a reasonable time period is a plus;
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to prepare correspondence, reports, and recommendations concerning construction issues and to establish and maintain project records;
  • Must have the ability to obtain OSHA Safety Certifications as required;
  • Understand the fundamentals of necessary inspection codes and requirements in order to carry out testing, and must be detail-oriented;
  • Requires a valid, clean driver’s license and personal vehicle to travel to and within project sites, as regular daily travel is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Assume a stationary position,
  • Handle, inspect, and/or feel documents, materials and/or equipment relevant to the job;
  • Communicate with colleagues, supervisors, and clients using Company email and telephone systems;
  • Move around on the job-site, including ascending or descending on the landscape or on a ladder, and positioning oneself appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment, usually for prolonged periods of time,
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. for some types of monitoring and inspections,
  • Good visual skills, including focused depth perception, and
  • Regular daily operations of a motor-vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.

Employees may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT Regulations, and/or Company policy. The employee may occasionally be required to operate a computer, as well as other related office machinery, such as calculators, printers, and copy machines. The physical demands described above are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. PAY RANGE

Tectonic’s goal is to compensate employees fairly and equitably across all positions Companywide. Our advertised pay ranges are representative of our good faith effort to provide a reasonable anticipated salary range. The offered pay may be outside of the provided salary range based upon the selected candidate’s work location, experience, education, certifications, and capabilities compared to the advertised position.

Pay Range: $65.00 - $75.00 / hour
