Qualifications

Job description

Transportation Construction Manager

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is a dynamic, 100% employee-owned consulting firm with over 2,400 professionals, providing multi-disciplinary engineering, architecture, IT, and related services across the U.S. Ranked #50 on ENR's Top 500 Design Firms, we seek Transportation Construction Inspection professionals for our southeastern Pennsylvania team. Our main clients include the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, and local government agencies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance with plans, specifications, and standards.
  • Managing inspection staff and scheduling throughout project phases.
  • Maintaining project documentation, ensuring accuracy in construction progress, environmental compliance, safety policies, and diversity initiatives.
  • Preparing and reviewing inspection reports, work authorizations, and estimates.
  • Addressing non-compliance issues and analyzing contractor schedules.
  • Monitoring project progress, advising on overruns and issues, and analyzing field tests.
  • Participating in pre-bid and pre-construction meetings, assisting with change orders and claims, and providing progress updates.
  • Engaging with the public, agencies, and contractors to respond to inquiries and resolve field issues.

Additional duties:

  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Strong computer skills.
  • Certifications such as NICET Level 2+ in Transportation/Highway Construction, NECEPT-Bituminous and Concrete Field Technician, ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle; must pass company screening.

Experience Needed:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 8 years of construction inspection experience.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques, reading plans, and supervision experience.
  • Ability to serve as an Owner's Agent or Responsible in Charge.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with local clients.
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
  • Previous PennDOT or PA Turnpike inspection experience.

Work Conditions:
