The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector to support roadway safety and quality across the region. This role involves outdoor work, learning inspection methods, and ensuring that bonded roads meet standards.

Qualifications

• One year as an Engineering Technician or equivalent Federal Government job title or Commonwealth title.
• Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 or equivalent.
• Three years of highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection experience.
• Three years of quality control of materials or construction industry experience, including reading blueprints, plans, or schematics.
• One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering or closely related field.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsabilités

• Damage assessment: Identify roadway damage, estimate repair material quantities, and report issues to supervisors.
• Permit monitoring: Review roadway conditions for bonded hauler activity and report highway occupancy concerns.
• Construction review: Document repair or upgrade work, maintain material records, and ensure required paperwork is submitted.
• Material sampling: Collect asphalt, aggregate, and concrete samples for testing to support roadway design and repair work.
• Guide rail inspection: Observe installation activities, check traffic control setups, and record contractor quantities for guide rail work.

The Transportation Construction Inspector position with the Department of Transportation offers a chance to support the safety and quality of roads across the region. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
• Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
• One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
