Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor to lead inspection teams and ensure road projects meet safety standards and specifications. You will supervise field staff, coordinate with engineers and contractors, and drive quality results across Lackawanna County sites.

This full-time role requires knowledge of bridge/road construction codes, strong problem-solving, and the ability to train and develop staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year as Transportation Construction Inspector or two years of inspection experience with an associate’s degree or equivalent training.
• Must meet the National Bridge Inspection Standards requirements for a bridge inspection team leader.
• Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License (non-commercial) or equivalent.
• PA residency required; ability to perform essential job functions.

This role oversees inspection activities that support safe, accurate, and efficient transportation construction work. It guides field staff, ensures quality standards, and helps resolve issues in real time. As a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:

• Inspection Oversight: Supervise project inspections to ensure work meets codes, plans, and specifications
• Team Direction: Guide and train staff, assign tasks, and review completed work for accuracy
• Field Coordination: Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and staff to resolve problems and plan operations
• Technical Review: Make calculations, review sketches, and support solutions to field challenges
• Documentation Management: Prepare required reports and maintain project records with accuracy
• Staff Development: Plan training, evaluate performance, and support employee growth and discipline decisions

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• This position will cover projects in Lackawanna County.
• Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year as a Transportation Construction Inspector (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years of construction inspection experience and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:

• This position is required to meet the qualifications for a bridge inspection team leader as defined by the current National Bridge Inspection Standards.
• This position requires possession of a valid non- commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
