Transportation Construction Inspector

JMT's Virginia Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector to apply standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety, and conformance to plans, specifications, and codes. This position is not eligible for employer-based sponsorship, except for the TN visa classification.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications, and construction methods to ensure compliance with legal requirements and safety regulations.
• Perform routine tests on concrete, soils, and other materials.
• Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades, and pavement to ensure compliance with plans and codes.
• Gather and maintain record documents.
• Make field notes and computations.

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

• Computer proficiency.
• Active driver's license.
• Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.

Required Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience).
• 1-4 years of roadway construction inspection experience.

Preferred Experience

• Associate's or bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
• Client-requested certifications (e.g., VDOT: Soils & Aggregate, Asphalt I & II, Pavement Marking, GRIT; DEQ: E&S and SWM Inspector; Intermediate Workzone; Nuclear Safety; ACI-Concrete Field Tech).

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Work may be conducted outside in various weather conditions.
