HDR is looking for a Transportation Construction Inspector to join our South Carolina Transportation Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) team in Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, or Beaufort, SC. This individual will inspect earthwork, storm drainage, asphalt pavement, concrete pavement, and/or structures for conformance to plans and specifications. They will perform material sampling and testing, calculations, and computations, and contract documentation duties, which may include field measurements of pay items as well as other required documentation. Work may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

• Must have considerable knowledge of mathematical functions
• Skills in the use of office equipment such as calculators and computers
• Ability to read, interpret, and explain construction plans, contract provisions, and specifications
• Ability to take notes and prepare or review reports, good communication skills, and the ability to instruct other employees in proper work methods
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule
• Willingness to travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections
• Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law
• Active participation in our employee-owned culture is essential
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction inspection for transportation projects preferred
• Local candidates are preferred
• SCDOT or other DOT certifications, or the ability to obtain them, are highly preferred

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent. Candidates with 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience may substitute experience for a high school diploma
• At least 3 years of experience
• Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Strong problem-solving and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Successful passing of drug-screening procedures prior to hiring; ongoing random and cause testing required
