Qualifications

NOTICE OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

The Elma School District is accepting applications for the following classified position:

Transportation Co-Op

Assistant Mechanic

8 hours per day

5 days per week Monday-Friday

Post Date: 03/26/2025

Close Date: Position will remain open until filled

Assignment: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 260 days per year.

EESP Salary Schedule Rate Range: $29.93 - $34.44

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. WSP/FBI Fingerprint background clearance (fee paid by the employee)
  3. Minimum of 21 years of age
  4. Valid Washington State Driver’s License with a CDL endorsement with Passenger endorsement, or ability to obtain endorsement within 6 months after hire. (Employer will train)
  5. Must hold a valid First Aid/CPR Certification card or obtain within 1 month after hire.
  6. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position
  7. 3 years of professional experience in the automotive industry or associate's degree in automotive technology or bachelor’s degree in automotive engineering technology

Skills, Knowledge, and/or Abilities Required:

  1. Receive work orders for the purpose of ensuring work is completed accurately and in a timely manner
  2. Perform repairs and maintenance on district vehicles
  3. Perform work standards and procedures maintenance and repair techniques, proper equipment usage, and safety standards
  4. Follow transportation shop procedures to improve the efficiency of shop operations
  5. Evaluate needs for vehicle parts and materials, contractual services, replacement of equipment, machinery, and tools.
  6. Schedule repairs with outside vendors to meet the needs of the transportation fleet
  7. Establish and maintain a preventative maintenance program with the WA State Patrol inspections. Prepare a written outline of preventative maintenance procedures to be posted in shop
  8. Review a written outline of shop staff duties to be printed and posted in shop
  9. Review up-to-date knowledge of SPI guidelines, Federal, State regulations and ensure District buses are equipped according to SPI regulations
  10. Assist with vehicle accident investigations
  11. Function cooperatively and productively as a team member with demonstrated skill in communication, problem-solving, and collaborative decision-making.
  12. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, and other District staff and the public.
  13. Ability to complete work in an efficient manner, regardless of pressures and interruptions
  14. Respond to road calls regarding disabled vehicles, buses for the purpose of performing emergency repair work in the field and/or determining if vehicle needs to be towed.
  15. Support Director of Transportation for the purpose of assisting in the operation of the division
  16. The safety and health of students and others is an essential function of this position
  17. May drive various bus routes when needed
  18. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
