Responsibilities

  • Set delivery appointments for inbound/outbound shipments.
  • Route and schedule outbound shipments with guidance from the shipping supervisor.
  • Maintain strong customer service orientation with urgency to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Use SAFER site to verify authorized operating authority of transportation brokers/carriers.
  • Rate and route orders based on predetermined rate and service levels.
  • Notify customers of shipments via fax, e-mail, or online for select orders.
  • Schedule and communicate shipments with brokers/carriers.
  • Track outbound shipments to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Process invoices from transportation brokers/carriers.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support production and workflow.

The Transportation Clerk II plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and accurate management of transportation logistics within a manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for coordinating shipments, maintaining detailed transportation records, and communicating effectively with carriers and internal departments to facilitate timely delivery of materials and finished goods. The role requires meticulous attention to detail to track shipments, resolve discrepancies, and support compliance with regulatory requirements. By managing transportation documentation and schedules, the Transportation Clerk II helps optimize supply chain operations and supports overall production goals. This position serves as a key liaison between manufacturing, warehousing, and transportation providers to maintain seamless operational flow.

SUMMARY

The Transportation Clerk will fulfill and process orders, schedule outbound shipments, and oversee the general organization of transportation.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma
  • At least 1-year experience as a Transportation Clerk or related job experience.
  • 12 months related experience
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficient computer skills: MS Office: Word, Outlook, TEAMS, and Excel.
  • Proficient with scheduling.
  • Analytical/Mathematical Skills.
  • Experience with ERP.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills (internal and external customers and vendors).
  • Effectively communicate information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers.
  • Must be able to work additional hours or beyond standard schedule with little or no-notice.
  • Working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Set delivery appointments for inbound/outbound shipments.
  • Route and schedule all outbound shipments with guidance from the shipping supervisor.
  • Must have very strong customer service orientation with high sense of urgency in meeting objectives and deadlines.
  • Use SAFER site to check authorized operating authority of transportation brokers/carriers.
  • Rate and route orders choosing carriers based on predetermined rate and service levels.
  • Upon shipment of certain orders, the transportation Clerk will send shipment notification via fax, e-mail, or enter online for these customers, detailing the shipments.
  • Schedule and communicate shipments with transportation brokers/carriers.
  • Track outbound shipments to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Process invoices from transportation brokers/carriers.
  • Perform or assist with any operations, as required, or directed, to maintain workflow or respond to production requirements.
  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned by a Lead, Supervisor, or Manager

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit at desk for prolonged periods, use hands to handle or feel, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to lift 15lbs at times, occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to focus to properly construct reports, use a computer and color coordinate monthly reports.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and will include, but not be limited to, computers, printers, telephones, and normal communication.
