Transportation Associates at Amazon support the transportation network by performing trailer moves in the trailer yard, coordinating yard activities, conducting yard audits, completing driver training programs, and operating multiple vehicle types such as hostlers and day cabs. They ensure trailers arrive and depart on time, maintain workflow for buildings, and support both internal and external transportation teams.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize safety by adhering to company rules and enforcing safety measures and policies for all vehicle operators and yard entrants.
- Perform various functions within the yard, support site operations teams, internal transportation field teams, and external carriers to keep trailers moving without defects.
- Operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) on non-public roads or in the yard to move trailers to/from dock and parking locations.
- Learn and comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Amazon policies covering size, weight, route designations, parking, trailer designations, violation and incident reporting, and break periods.
- Complete driver vehicle inspection reports and notify managers of maintenance or delivery issues.
- Track and report working hours and breaks in compliance with Amazon policy, federal and state regulations, safety policies, and traffic laws.
- Serve as a peer trainer or support other site locations as needed.
- Drive, maneuver, load and unload a truck using approved equipment such as pallet jacks.
- Support the business on an as-needed basis.

Basic Qualifications
- Hold a valid, active driver's license.
- High school or equivalent diploma.
- 21 years of age or older, with ability to understand and adhere to all job requirements and safety guidelines in English.
- Work 40 hours per week, with overtime as required.
- Work a flexible schedule/shift/area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
- Lift up to 49 pounds and stand/walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours; frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Office products and applications.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with diverse audiences.
- Strong collaborative relationship-building with colleagues and outside vendors.
- Experience enforcing safety measures and policies in a transportation/yard environment.
Additional Information
When requested, transportation associates must obtain a CDL and Driver Qualification File (DQF) as a condition of the role, paid for by Amazon. The position may become regulated by the Department of Transportation and follow FMCSA regulations. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license for the state in which they reside, be eligible to drive in accordance with DOT requirements, and pass a DOT‑regulated background screening, a DOT physical, and Amazon’s pre‑employment drug test. English proficiency is required for these regulated roles.
Compensation
Location: USA, SC, West Columbia
Pay: $24.00 – $24.00 USD hourly
