Job summary

Amazon is hiring Transportation Associates to move trailers within yards, coordinate yard activities, and support the transportation network. The role includes training for Hostler and CDL programs and operating CMVs on yard or non-public roads to shuttle trailers between docks and parking spots.

Qualifications

  • Hold a valid and active driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Work 40 hours per week with overtime as required.
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Lift up to 49 pounds and stand or walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours.
  • Understand and follow English language job requirements and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Make safety a priority by enforcing safety rules for all vehicle operators.
  • Support site operations teams and carriers to ensure on-time trailer movements with zero defects.
  • Operate CMVs in yard/non-public roads to move trailers to and from docks and parking locations.
  • Learn and comply with DOT regulations and company policies.
  • Complete driver vehicle inspection reports and notify managers of issues.
  • Follow schedules, track working hours and breaks, and adhere to yard safety policies.
  • Serve as a peer trainer at nearby sites as needed.
  • Drive, maneuver, and load/unload trucks using pallet jacks.

Transportation Associate

Overview

Transportation Associates perform trailer moves in the trailer yard, coordinate yard activities such as checking in trailers, managing traffic flow, and conducting yard audits. They complete driver training programs (Hostler, Commercial Driver’s License school) and operate various vehicle types—including hostlers and day cabs—to support Amazon’s transportation network.

Responsibilities
  • Make safety a priority by adhering to company rules and regulations and enforcing safety measures for all who operate vehicles on behalf of Amazon.
  • Support site operations teams, internal transportation field teams, and external carriers to ensure trailers arrive and depart on time with zero defects and maintain workflow for buildings.
  • Be professionally trained to operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) on non‑public roads or in the yard to move trailers to and from dock and parking locations.
  • Learn and comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies governing size, weight, route designation, parking, and incident reporting.
  • Complete driver vehicle inspection reports and notify managers of maintenance or delivery issues.
  • Follow hostler and delivery schedules, track and report working hours and breaks, and adhere to yard safety policies and traffic laws.
  • Serve as a peer trainer and provide assistance at nearby site locations as needed.
  • Drive, maneuver, and load or unload a truck using approved equipment such as pallet jacks.

Basic Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with diverse audiences.
  • Experience building strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues and outside vendors.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Completion of a Career Choice Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) course.
