Overview

Transportation Associates perform trailer moves in the yard, coordinate yard activities such as checking in trailers, traffic flow, and internal communications with operations, conduct yard audits, complete driver training programs, and operate multiple vehicle types to support Amazon’s transportation network.

Responsibilities

• Make safety a priority by adhering to company rules and regulations, enforcing safety measures and policies for all vehicle operators, yard entrants, vendors, and senior team members.
• Perform various functions within the yard to support site operations teams, internal transportation field teams, and external carriers, ensuring all trailers arrive and depart on time with zero defects and maintaining workflow for buildings.
• Be professionally trained to operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) on non‑public roads or in the yard to move trailers to/from dock and parking locations.
• Learn Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and comply with company policies regarding size, weight, route designations, parking, trailer designations, violation and incident reporting, break periods, etc.
• Complete driver vehicle inspection reports and notify managers of any maintenance or delivery issues encountered.
• Follow hostler and delivery schedules, track and report working hours and breaks in compliance with Amazon policy, federal and state regulations, obey all traffic laws, and drive in accordance with weather and road conditions.
• Support the business on an as‑needed basis by serving as a peer trainer and/or working at nearby site locations within the area.
• Drive, maneuver, and load/unload a truck using approved equipment such as a pallet jack.

Basic Qualifications

• Hold a valid and active driver's license.
• High school or equivalent diploma.
• 21 years of age or older with the ability to understand and adhere to all job requirements and safety guidelines in English.
• Can lift up to 49 pounds, stand and walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, reach and ascend/descend stairs.
• Work 40 hours per week, with overtime as required.
• Work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with diverse audiences.
• Experience building strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues and outside vendors.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Completion of Career Choice Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Course.
• Experience with Microsoft Office products and applications.
• Ability to follow and enforce safety measures and policies for all vehicle operators and yard entrants.
• A commitment to build strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues and outside vendors.

Compensation & Benefits

The starting pay for this position is $24.00 per hour, which includes the base pay rate and the highest available shift differential depending on the shift selected. As a total compensation company, additional earnings may include shift differentials and overtime pay. Final pay will be based on factors such as shift selection and location.
