Transmission Structural Engineer – Senior Level

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Transmission Engineer to join our Overhead Transmission design team. This position is posted in multiple POWER office locations with the ability to work remotely from a mutually acceptable location (please note in the application questions where you prefer to be located).

Roles And Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for senior-level project leadership and/or technical expertise and production. This includes technical competence in primary production roles and leadership in mentoring and supervising team members. Projects will include various transmission projects such as lines over 100 miles, multiple segments, operating voltages up to 765kV, focusing on structural engineering of lattice towers. The role also aims to facilitate growth in lattice tower design and detailing services.

Technical Skills/Knowledge Include The Following

• Transmission line design projects including new lines, relocations, rebuilds, upgrades, structure replacements, and fiber optic additions
• Lead transmission design efforts for projects ranging from 12kV-765kV
• Prepare and review design deliverables such as plans, profiles, materials, and construction specs
• Perform quality reviews for internal and subcontractor deliverables
• Prioritize work and manage multiple projects within budget and schedule
• Manage project proposals, estimates, schedules, and bids
• Evaluate design options, criteria, and routes for technical merit
• Understand standards for high voltage line construction
• Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to ensure client satisfaction
• Travel as needed to client sites, field locations, and vendor facilities
• Provide structural engineering expertise in lattice transmission towers

Required Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
• Professional Engineering license
• Experience in designing overhead high and extra-high voltage transmission lines
• Knowledge of NESC and GO-95 standards
• Experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, and PLS-Lite software
• Strong command of English for effective communication
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Proficiency with lattice tower analysis and design tools like PLS-TOWER, ATADS
• Ability to create and interpret lattice tower layouts and detailed drawings

Preferred Education/Experience

• 10+ years in transmission line or structural design
• Structural Engineering license and California PE license preferred
• Experience with MFAD and Microsoft Project
• Knowledge of transmission line routing, project management, EPC projects, and line construction
• Distribution/underbuild design experience
• Familiarity with ANSI, ASTM, ASCE, IEC standards
• Leadership skills in recruiting and mentoring
