Job summary

HDR is seeking a Transmission Line Intern - Civil/Structural in Austin, TX. You will collaborate with civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, survey, and electrical teams on real-world transmission projects.

You'll assist with design and analysis of line structures, participate in field visits, develop drawings using AutoCAD and MicroStation, and benefit from mentoring and the employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills and willingness to participate in employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, survey, and electrical disciplines.
• Provide real-world experience on transmission projects.
• Participate in field visits and site investigations to understand conditions and construction.
• Engage with mentors and young professionals programs.
• Assist with design and analysis of transmission line structures and foundations.
• Develop and review engineering drawings and construction documents.
• Use AutoCAD, MicroStation, PLS-CADD, and PLS-POLE for designs.

In the role of Transmission Line Intern- Civil/Structural, we’ll count on you to:

• Coordinate with civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, survey, and electrical engineering disciplines.
• Offer real-world experience on exciting projects
• Participate in field visits and site investigations to understand existing conditions and transmission line construction
• Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals programs
• Assist with the design and analysis of transmission line structures and foundations, including drilled piers and direct-embedded structures
• Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager
• Develop and review engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and construction documents
• Use industry engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, PLS-CADD, and PLS-POLE

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
• Pursuing a degree in Civil, Structural, Architectural, or Environmental Engineering Degree
• Strong interest in applying civil engineering principles to real-world infrastructure projects
• Interest in infrastructure design, structural engineering, foundations, and large-scale utility projects

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
• Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Basic Microsoft Office skills
• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
