Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an electrical/structural designer with 3+ years of experience in transmission line design. The role focuses on developing line plans, hardware details, and grounding schemes in AutoCAD 3D and MicroStation, collaborating with engineers to interpret inputs, and ensuring accurate, to-scale master sketches.

The candidate will work in a hybrid schedule, with in-office days three per week, engaging with vendors and project teams to drive accurate design outputs.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in drafting or a high school diploma with 1+ years drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience.
• Proficient in AutoCAD.
• 3+ years experience in design/drafting of Transmission Lines.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans and drawings.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer.

Responsibilities

• Develop transmission line plans and profile drawings, transmission/distribution line hardware details, material lists, and grounding details.
• Create master sketches to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities with exact specifications and dimensions.
• Consult with engineering staff to interpret input from specifications, weight and volume calculations, and stress factors.
• Possibly accompany and assist other project team members on walkdowns at client facilities to gather design information.
• Interact with vendors and construction contractors to explain drawings for design adjustments.

• This position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your design skills, while working in a multi-disciplined team environment with other Electrical and Structural designers and/or engineers in the development of transmission/distribution line drawings/designs.
• You will have the opportunity to apply your computer-aided drafting/design skills, while receiving hands‑on training in 3D design software environments, such as AutoCAD 3D and/or MicroStation.
• Some of your responsibilities will include the development of transmission line plans and profile drawings, transmission/distribution line hardware details, material lists, and grounding details.

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Essential Skills And Experience

• An Associate’s Degree in drafting, or a high school diploma and 1 or more years drafting course work or equivalent technical experience.
• Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
• 3 or more years experience in design/drafting of Transmission Lines.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, drawings, and models.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer.
• Ability to multi-task from project to project.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Attention to detail.

Valued But Not Required Skills And Experience

• Experience using Microstation, PLS‑CADD, AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or GIS software.

Compensation Range

$58,925 - $84,728
