Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Transmission Design Drafter to join a multidisciplinary team in Peachtree Corners, GA. The role focuses on developing transmission and distribution line drawings, with CAD design and 3D work in AutoCAD and MicroStation.

The position combines in-office collaboration three days a week under a hybrid schedule, with responsibilities including line plans, hardware details, material lists, and grounding details, while working with engineers and vendors.

Qualifications

• Essential: Associate’s Degree in drafting, or HS diploma with 1+ years drafting coursework or equivalent.
• Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
• 6+ years of design/drafting experience for Transmission Lines.
• Knowledge of producing technical plans, drawings, and models.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without CAD.
• Strong verbal and written communication; detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Develop transmission line plans and profile drawings, hardware details, material lists, and grounding details.
• Create master sketches to scale showing installations relative to existing facilities and specifications.
• Collaborate with engineering staff to interpret inputs from specs, weight/volume calculations, and stress factors.
• Assist other project team members on site walkdowns to gather design information.
• Explain drawings to vendors/contractors to support design adjustments.

Description

WORK LOCATION: This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week at the Sargent & Lundy office in Peachtree Corners, GA.

• This position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your design skills, while working in a multi-disciplined team environment with other Electrical and Structural designers and/or engineers in the development of transmission/distribution line drawings/designs.
• You will have the opportunity to apply your computer-aided drafting/design skills, while receiving hands‑on training in 3D design software environments, such as AutoCAD 3D and/or MicroStation.
• Some of your responsibilities will include the development of transmission line plans and profile drawings, transmission/distribution line hardware details, material lists, and grounding details.
• You will be involved in creating master sketches to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities and exact specifications and dimensions. In preparing your drawings, you will confer directly with engineering staff in interpreting input from a variety of sources, such as engineering specifications, weight and volume calculations, and stress factors.
• You may accompany and assist other project team members on walkdowns at client facilities to gather information for your design project.
• While interfacing with vendors and construction contractors, you may be given the opportunity to explain your drawings so appropriate design adjustments can be made.

Essential skills and experience:

• An Associate’s Degree in drafting, or a high school diploma and 1 or more years drafting course work or equivalent technical experience.
• Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
• 6 or more years experience in design/drafting of Transmission Lines.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, drawings, and models.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer.
• Ability to multi-task from project to project.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Attention to detail.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

• Experience using Microstation, PLS-CADD, AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or GIS software.

Compensation Range

$64,817 - $93,201
