Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a CAD designer in Cranberry Township, PA to join a multi‑discipline team focused on transmission line drawings and 3D designs. You will develop plans, hardware details, and material lists, collaborating with engineers to translate specs into precise CAD models.

The role emphasizes 3D visualization, effective communication, and the ability to switch between projects while ensuring accuracy and adherence to standards.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• 5+ years in design of transmission lines, with PLS-CADD experience.
• Proficiency in CAD tools and 3D visualization techniques.
• Strong verbal and written communication and detail orientation.

Responsibilities

• Develop transmission/distribution line plans and profile drawings.

Description

• This position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your design skills, while working in a multi-disciplined team environment with other Electrical and Structural designers and/or engineers in the development of transmission/distribution line drawings/designs.
• You will have the opportunity to apply your computer-aided drafting/design skills, while receiving hands‑on training in 3D design software environments, such as AutoCAD 3D and/or MicroStation.
• Some of your responsibilities will include the development of transmission line plans and profile drawings, transmission/distribution line hardware details, material lists, and grounding details.
• You will be involved in creating master sketches to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities and exact specifications and dimensions. In preparing your drawings, you will confer directly with engineering staff in interpreting input from a variety of sources, such as engineering specifications, weight and volume calculations, and stress factors.
• You may accompany and assist other project team members on walkdowns at client facilities to gather information for your design project.
• While interfacing with vendors and construction contractors, you may be given the opportunity to explain your drawings so appropriate design adjustments can be made.

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

• An Associate’s Degree in drafting, or a high school diploma and 1+ years of drafting course work or equivalent technical experience.
• Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
• 5+ years of experience in design of Transmission Lines, including experience in using PLS-CADD.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, drawings, and models.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer.
• Ability to multi‑task from project to project.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Attention to detail.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

• Experience using Microstation, AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or GIS software.

Compensation Range

$64,817 - $93,201
