Job summary

Xcel Energy is offering an internship in the Transmission Line Engineering & Design Group. The role focuses on analyzing and designing high voltage transmission lines (69kV–345kV) while gaining hands-on experience with PLS-CADD, estimating procedures, and NESC compliance.

Current students in ABET‑accredited programs for Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical engineering can work full-time in the summer and part-time during the school year, commuting to the designated location under a hybrid policy.

Qualifications

• Current student, Sophomore or higher.
• Enrolled in ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical engineering.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) / part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and design new and existing high voltage transmission lines operating at 69kV–345kV; become familiar with NESC code.
• Perform clearance checks and encroachment application reviews; review standards and construction practices.
• Work with PLS-CADD
• Learn estimating procedures
• Learn NESC code and how to check for clearance violations
• Model, design, and analyze new and existing transmission lines
• Learn facility rating methodology
• Become familiar with material and construction practices for high voltage lines
