Job summary

American Electric Power in New Albany, OH seeks an entry-level Dispatcher Worker to assist in operating the transmission system under supervision. You will coordinate with the AEP SCC and other centers, monitor voltages, and support switching, tagging, and restoration during maintenance and emergencies.

The role requires a two-year technical degree or HS with relevant experience, a valid driver license, and completion of the HireVue Dispatcher assessment.

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field
• OR High School and 2 years of experience operating a power system
• Valid state driver license
• Entrance test via HireVue Dispatcher Worker Virtual Job Tryout (approx. 45 minutes)

Responsibilities

• Assist in monitoring and regulating system voltage levels and real/ reactive power flows for the transmission system in coordination with the AEP SCC.
• Assist in real-time operation of the AEP transmission system in coordination with the AEP SCC and neighboring utilities.
• Assist in real-time operation of distribution equipment inside the station fence in coordination with regional distribution dispatch centers.
• Prepare basic switching orders with steps and tagging for removing equipment from service for maintenance, ensuring safety of people and equipment.
• Assist in directing switching operations under emergency conditions and help restore service quickly and safely.
• Maintain an event/log of operations and transactions related to facility and equipment operation.
• Observe and assist in operating the SCADA system and related functions.
• Monitor metering and communications facilities and report malfunctions for corrective action.
• Monitor weather information system for severe weather and notify appropriate personnel.
