Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced quantitative analyst to research, model, and price congestion fundamentals across multiple ISOs. You will validate congestion models, mine large datasets, and translate market changes into strategic opportunities.

The role requires strong SQL, data mining, and statistical skills, along with experience in PowerWorld/YES/Dayzer and nodal LMP forecasting. A STEM degree and US work authorization are required.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in congestion, transmission, or energy market analytics.
  • Experience with transmission modeling and FTR auctions across multiple ISOs; PJM, ERCOT and CAISO preferred.
  • Knowledge of wholesale markets, power markets and general ISO operations.
  • Strong understanding of transmission systems, drivers of nodal pricing changes and associated power flows.
  • Strong understanding of transmission shift factors, statistics and probabilistic analysis.
  • Ability to run, scope and interpret power flow models such as Pro-Mod, Power World and/or others.
  • Experience with transmission modeling tools such as Dayzer and YES.
  • Experience working within SQL and database structures preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM or a business discipline.
  • Tableau or Power BI skills preferred.
  • Proficient with Excel and Word.
  • Must hold current authorization to work for any employer in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for an employment visa now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Research, model, and price congestion fundamentals across multiple ISOs
  • Validate and analyze congestion models for accuracy and completeness
  • Manage and mine large data sets to identify and price trading opportunities that mitigate basis risk and enhance or protect expected revenue
  • Perform quantitative analyses and econometric studies of energy markets and translate wholesale market changes into strategic opportunities
  • Maintain, execute, and calibrate power flow optimization models, including YES, Powerworld, and Dayzer, to develop trading strategies
  • Provide daily analysis of market congestion setup to inform congestion risk assessments and support virtual and PTP transaction decisions
  • Develop, update, and participate in executing the LRE Congestion Plan
  • Support research and innovation activities by developing new techniques and analytical tools
  • Produce nodal LMP forecasts across multiple ISOs for short-term and long-term cases
  • Collaborate with trading teams on ad hoc sensitivity cases
  • Lead analytical preparation for congestion product auctions, including pricing analysis, scenario modeling, and risk evaluation
  • Establish and maintain internal and external relationships supporting data development for LRE models
  • Contribute to quarterly Board reporting
  • Work with the Manager of Congestion and Market Analytics, Basis Traders, Director of Portfolio Management, and Transmission group

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of transmission shift factors, statistics and probabilistic analysis

  • Ability to run, scope and interpret power flow models such as Pro-Mod, Power World and/or others

  • Critical thinker with strong analytical skills capable of identifying risk mitigating and revenue enhancing strategies

  • Experience with transmission modeling tools such as Dayzer and YES

  • Experience working within SQL and database structures preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM or a business discipline

  • Tableau or Power BI skills preferred

  • Proficient with Excel and Word

  • Must hold current authorization to work for any employer in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for an employment visa now or in the future

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and occasionally lift up to twenty-pound boxes
